accommodations Accommodations are adjustments or changes provided to an individual with disabilities or special health care needs that provide access and/or reduce the effects of their disability.
accommodations in school Accommodations in school are adjustments or changes provided to a student with disabilities which provide access and/or reduce the effects of their disability, allowing the student to participate in educational experiences and demonstrate their knowledge and skills in ways similar to students without disabilities.
accommodations in the workplace Accommodations in the workplace are adjustments or changes provided to an individual with disabilities in the workplaces that provide access and /or reduce the effects of their disability, enabling the employee to accomplish their job in ways similar to other employees without disabilities.
adapted physical education Adapted physical education or recreation program changed or modified to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities.
americans with disabilities act (ADA) The ADA is a federal law that gives civil rights protections to individuals with disabilities within the United States.
appropriate academic adjustment "Appropriate academic adjustment" is a legal term used in Subpart E of Section 504 of the ADA to describe academic accommodations that might be required by individuals with disabilities in post-secondary education.
assistive technology Assistive technology is any kind of technology that can be used to enhance the functional independence of a person with a disability. assistive technology service Assistive technology service is any service that directly assists an individual with a disability in the selection, acquisition, or use of an assistive technology device.

children with special health care needs The term "children with special health care needs" describes a group of children who have or might be at risk for developing chronic physical, developmental, behavioral, or emotional conditions, and who also need health related services that are not required by most children.

disability support office The Disabiity Support Office is the college or university department that is responsible for providing supports for students with disabilities.
dual/concurrent enrollment Dual/concurrent enrollment is a program that allows students enrolled in high school the opportunity to gain college experience or earn college credit by enrolling in college-endorsed classes in their high school, taking college classes on a college campus, or enrolling in college level accredited distance learning classes. This program provides students the experience of the rigor of a college curriculum, enhances admission and retention, and improved the transition from high school to college.
reasonable accommodations "Reasonable accommodations" is the legal term used in Title 1 of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) to describe workplace accomodations for individuals with disabilities. "Reasonable accommodations" here are defined as "any change in the workplace environment or in the way a job is performed that enables a person with a disability to enjoy equal employment opportunities.
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act Secion 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, (as amended), is a civil rights statute which prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities. Under this law, students' with disabilities are required to receive "reasonable accommodations" in education unless those accommodations would constitute an "undue burden".
